November Resolutions

November 01, 2017
I’m always looking for ways to constantly challenge myself and keep learning, so I thought I’d set up some goals for the month of November, and hopefully every month onwards. Personally, I’ve found that month-long resolutions work better for me compared to year-long resolutions. Whenever I make new year resolutions, they always end up being too generic, broad, and I lose focus a few months in. On the other hand, month-long resolutions tend to be more specific and actionable, which lead to a higher rate of success at the end of the month. Higher success rate means more feelings of accomplishment, and more feelings of accomplishment leads to a happier Indira.

Leaving A Mark

May 07, 2016
I’ve been living the 9 to 5 grind for nine months now. A lot has changed since I entered the workforce, and I’m proud of how I’ve developed: I’m more comfortable picking up challenging work and I feel like I play an important role in my team. However, I’d be lying if I said I’m 100% content with my life. It’s the same routine everyday: I get up, go to work, and then I go home. Some days, I go out with friends. Some days, I exercise at the gym. Some days, I stay home and read a book. And some days, I stay home and just rest. I’m pretty happy, but I still feel like I’m missing something.

Living Life to the Fullest

February 18, 2016
Time is a precious resource. It’s one of the only things in life which you can’t gain. In other words, the amount of time you have on earth will always decrease at any point in time. If you want to hear an even more negative way of thinking about it: for every day that passes by, you are a day closer to dying.

Adult Life

January 12, 2016
In the past six months, I have: Graduated from Brown University. Moved to Cambridge, MA. Started working as a software engineer at Cimpress. As a kid, I would always look forward to the day where I become an adult, have my own job, and pay for my own living expenses. However, never did I think this day would come so soon.

Home At Last

June 08, 2015
Upon graduating, I decided I would try to spend as much time as possible back home before I start working full-time. Indonesia is practically on the other side of the globe from Boston, and with only 15 days of Paid Time Off, visiting family in Indonesia won’t be easy. So I booked a flight from Jakarta to Boston in late August, giving me slightly under three months in Indonesia. And now here I am! Writing a blog post in the comfort of my own home. Home sweet home.

Officially a Brown Alum

May 28, 2015
This past Sunday I walked through the Van Wickle gates for the second and possibly last time of my life. The first time I walked through the gates was in September 2013, when I first enrolled at Brown University. This time, I walked outside of the gates, into the oncoming traffic (just kidding, obviously they blocked off the road so there wasn't any traffic) as an alum of Brown University.

Revelations

October 05, 2014
This week has been so hectic that my Saturday felt like a Sunday. Why? Well, I studied pretty much the whole day, and Saturdays aren’t meant for studying...Sundays are. I got a lot of stuff done though, so no regrets there. As usual, this post is going to be rather stream-of-consciousness-ish. It’s very random. You have been warned.

A hodgepodge of thoughts

September 25, 2014
I keep telling myself to write more but I never have time, and when I do, I’m so exhausted that all I want to do is sleep. That’s what college does to you, kids. When I was younger, I always wondered why my parents love to sleep so much, and now I know why. Life is tiring. This blog post is a collection of jumbled up thoughts I have accumulated over the past month after moving back to Providence for senior year. It’s very random. You have been warned.

Wrapping Up Spring Semester

May 03, 2014
This is super cliché, but it’s amazing how fast time passes by. I still remember being all excited for this semester, and now, as I write this blogpost, my semester ends in eleven days. I have to say, this semester turned out to be more time consuming than I had anticipated. CS32 is pretty much eating up all my time, and I keep having to walk up and down the hill to finish up my photography assignments during the weekends. However, I feel like my Java skills are now at superhuman Asian level (okay, maybe not really), I know why my brain decides to binge on junk food during stressful times (I blame the fact that I’m under cognitive load), I know what Q-Learning is (although I’m not sure when exactly I’ll have to use it), I can develop and enlarge my own photographs, and I can play the Javanese gamelan. But okay. In all seriousness though, I definitely learned a ton this semester.

April Mayhem

April 09, 2014
It’s April here at university and you know what that means…. April Mayhem! sing it in Daily Grace’s Sexy Friday tune In a way, I’m really happy that Brown has Spring break, because it allowed for some much needed rest. But on the other hand, having a one week break in the middle of a really packed schedule has made me somewhat less motivated to study. I’ve kind of slacked a bit after coming back from holiday, like I just haven’t been able to pick up where I left off. So, as you have probably guessed, this blog post is kind of a way for me to procrastinate…

Let the Semester Begin!

February 07, 2014
Dear Reader, I have completed my first assignment for my Software Engineering class and Spring semester is in full swing (incidentally, I used Swing for my assignment!). I am taking a wide variety of classes this semester, and I am excited to see what the future brings (I know, cliché). Actually, let me rephrase my sentence. I shouldn’t be waiting for good things to happen to me, and instead, I should make those things happen. And that’s exactly what I’m trying to do this semester.

University Brown = new University();

September 22, 2013
Soooo…. I don’t really know where to start. Probably the fact that I am now attending an institution 3,000 miles away from my previous one? After hours, days, weeks, and months of hard work, I am now officially a student at Brown University. I’m a Brunonian. I’m a student at the Laid-Back Ivy. I’m a student at the douchiest university. I’m a student at that institution that was voted as the happiest college in the US. My dream has finally come true.

double confidence = 0.0;

April 02, 2013
Spring break has ended and now it’s time for Spring quarter. Which can only mean one thing: two and a half more months as a Green River student. Truth be told, I wasn’t exactly a happy camper when I first came here. I thought, “Crappy school, far away from the city. Can’t wait to transfer and get out of this ghost town!” Five quarters afterwards, I’m loathing graduation day--I’m really enjoying every second of my life, and I’d really hate to move.

cout << "Hello";

February 15, 2013
Long story short, last night I decided to make a new blog so that I could talk about my journey. Maybe, ten years down the road, I can look at my blog's archive and laugh at all the weird stuff I wrote. I've had previous blog(s) before, but they were sort of crappy so I decided to get a new one. Start fresh, start on a new page.
